The Academic Coaching department at Mid-South Community College strives to meet the instructional needs of its students body by offering tutorial support services primarily in math and English. The goal of the coaching program is to fosters active learning and enhance classroom performance and academic achievement via individualized or group tutoring sessions. The program also aims to produce independent thinkers and learners by improving study skills, writing ability, subject comprehension, and test preparation.
How Does it Work?
Coaching services are free to all currently registered students and are available by appointment as well as on a drop-in basis, depending on coaches’ availability. Each coach is interviewed, and his/her credentials are reviewed relative to the respective subject area before an offer of employment is made. Professional coaches are charged with providing the best quality services to our students.
How Do I Make An Appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled online via Tutor Trac (accessible on your Campus Cruiser dashboard) or by visiting the Learning Success
Center. Group and individual sessions are welcome. To schedule a standing appointment, please access a coaches’ calendar online via Tutor Trac. For drop-in coaching. Simply stop by the Learning Success Center and ask the front desk staff to assist you in seeing an available
coach. The complete coaching schedule is available at the Learning Success Center front desk
throughout the year. English coaches are located in the Learning Success Center and math coaches in Magruder Hall.
Are There Any other Resources Available for Tutoring?
Yes, there are other resources available! For example, Smarthinking is an online tutorial
resource available to all students to access professional tutors online. This resource
offers assistance in various subject areas and only requires you to login online to access
the site. The Smarthinking link is also accessible via your Campus Cruiser dashboard.
The Learning Success Center also offers a collection of materials on study skills
development, a service which is available at no cost to you. This collection includes textbooks,
videos and pamphlets. Textbooks and videos maybe checked-out but must be
returned. Any of the coaches in the Learning Success Center can assist you
