Associate of Arts in Teaching

Middle School Concentration

64-66 Credit Hours

The Associate of Arts in Teaching is designed to facilitate transfer into
baccalaureate middle school education (grades 4-8) programs. The curriculum
below outlines the minimum AAT requirements for transfer to Arkansas four year
institutions proposed to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education in
spring 2005. Students are encouraged to consult the MSCC Registrar or the
catalog of their transfer institution in advance regarding other or alternative course
requirements.

MSCC and the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) have a partnership through
which students may complete a baccalaureate degree in Middle School Education
from UCA on the MSCC campus. The requirements for this special “two-plus-two”
are outlined following the generic program section.

The following outline of requirements should be used as a planning worksheet.
Students should check course descriptions and pre req ui sites in planning their
courses of study.

Program Goals
In addition to the General Education Learning Outcomes listed on pages 80-
81, Associate of Arts in Teaching students are expected to satisfy the following
program goals:

• Acquire a fundamental knowledge of scientifi c principles and modes
of inquiry.
• Acquire and appropriately apply a fundamental understanding of child
development, educational theory and practice, and learning strategies.
• Successfully pass the Praxis I examination which is required for graduation
and for initial teaching certifi cation in the state of Arkansas.
