In order to be eligible for funding under federal Title IV programs, an educational program must lead to a degree (associate, bachelor’s, graduate, or professional) or prepare students for “gainful employment in a recognized occupation.” The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions (like Mid-South Community College) that participate in the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to report certain information about students who enrolled in Title IV-eligible educational programs that lead to gainful employment in a recognized occupation (GE Programs). Those regulations provide that institutions must also disclose certain information about their GE Programs to prospective students.
What does gainful employment at MSCC mean?
This website is provided to our students as an informational site about gainful employment. MSCC falls under the designation of a Domestic Public Institution http://ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/GEN1110.html
As such we are required to report the following:
- Non-degree programs, including all certificate programs.
- Approved “Comprehensive Transition Programs” for students with intellectual disabilities.
Who do we include in our GE reporting?
Institutions must report certain information about all of its students who enrolled in GE Programs, regardless of whether a student received Title IV student aid. However, we do not report students when we do not have a Social Security number. Additionally, all information will be reported as cumulative data in compliance with all FERPA requirements — no individual student information will be available for public review.
