Director of ADSTEP

This is a full-time, grant-funded position (5 years)

ADSTEP is a National Science Foundation Grant Project entitled the “Arkansas Delta Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Talent Expansion Project.”  Mid-South Community College is the lead institution for a project consortium composed initially of Mid-South Community College, Arkansas Northeastern College, East Arkansas Community College, and Phillips Community College of the University Arkansas, in partnership with the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith and 24 selected public school districts. Its purpose is to

  1. Increase the number of traditionally underrepresented students (low-income, ethnic and racial minorities) specifically in STEM undergraduate majors through targeted recruiting, mentoring, and academic support initiatives.
  1. Create an education/career pathway in Advanced Manufacturing Technology which includes employable, credentialed “stop-out” points at high school graduation, completion of an associate of applied science degree, and completion of a baccalaureate of applied science degree.
  2. Disseminate a curricular model throughout the 8-state, 240 county/parish region administered by the Delta Regional Authority which demonstrates how community colleges, in partnership with universities and regional school districts, can increase the number of African-American students choosing STEM careers

Minimum Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling or related field (with doctorate preferred) and at least 5 years’ experience in public school counseling, college recruiting and/or grant project implementation; excellent organizational and communication skills with proven record of successful project management experience; ability to effectively use Microsoft applications for communication, data storage and retrieval. 

Responsibilities:  Reports to the Executive Vice President with responsibility for creating, implementing, and tracking a recruiting, mentoring, and academic support program to encourage minority student participation in science, technology, engineering, and math careers. Must keep accurate and detailed data related to grant objectives, assist with monthly and annual reports, and achieve grant goals. Must work collaboratively with other recruiters and faculty from participating colleges and with target high school personnel. Some evening and weekend hours required as well as some travel to regional meetings.

Proposed Salary: $45,000-$50,000 with full college benefits
