Mid-South
Community College, a two-year public institution in West Memphis, provides
a wide array of educational opportunities for citizens in Eastern Arkansas,
Western Tennessee and Northwest Mississippi. MSCC is a learning college,
dedicated to student access and goal achievement. Students at Mid-South
can select from associate degrees, technical certificates and certificates
of proficiency. Noncredit instruction and training are also available, and
MSCC boasts one of the largest and most successful Adult Education/GED programs
in Arkansas.With the opening of the $7 million Workforce Technology Center, MSCC is providing a variety of highly-coveted automation/robotics/manufacturing learning opportunities designed to meet the needs of existing and emerging business and industries in the region. The WTC includes 38,154 square feet of high-tech multimedia classrooms; computer, electricity/electronics, and industrial maintenance labs; expansive manufacturing training areas, and diesel maintenance technology equipment designed to prepare workers for current and future job opportunities in Eastern Arkansas. The WTC is serving as an economic development focal point for the community and will enhance industrial technology, transportation and manufacturing career opportunities in the region. For students interested in Information Systems Technology, MSCC provides instruction and training in three hot computer certifications: Cisco Networking (Associate and Professional), Certified Internet Web Professional (CIW), and A+ (Microcomputer Upgrade and Repair). The college also serves as a Microsoft Office Specialist testing site. In addition, the college hosts undergraduate and graduate classes in agriculture, business administration, nursing, education, radiologic technology, and library science offered by on-site instructors or compressed video from neighboring regional universities. The College also participates in on-line learning opportunities with Franklin University. Credit enrollment at the MSCC has climbed from 100 students in 1993 to nearly 1,600. And growth has not been limited to enrollment. In addition to the Workforce Technology Center, new and renovated buildings populate the Mid-South landscape, with the $12 million Donald W. Reynolds Center for Educational Excellence serving as the campus centerpiece. |
