Mid-South Community College has an additional $20,000 remaining for the fall term (and continuing for the spring term) for students who qualify for the Arkansas Workforce Improvement Grant.  Would you like to find out more?  Read on....

What is a Workforce Improvement Grant (WIG)?

The Workforce Improvement Grant (WIG) is a relatively new program from the Arkansas Department of Education.  This program is designed to provide financial assistance for students who do not qualify for a Pell grant or enough Pell grant to cover college tuition.

How do I apply?

Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The FAFSA is available in the Financial Aid office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov .

How do I qualify?

The basic qualifications include:

--be a U.S. citizen and resident of Arkansas for at least 6 months;

--be an independent student (as determined by FAFSA) and 24 or older by the first day of the
...fall term;

--meet satisfactory academic progress;

--not have earned a baccalaureate degree;

--have need for tuition and/or fees above a student’s Pell grant; and

--WIG grant cannot exceed Cost of Attendance.

I make too much money for a Pell grant so I won’t qualify for this program either.

Not true.  Let me give you some examples of students who qualify.

If I qualify, how much can I receive?

You can qualify for up to $1,000/semester or $2,000/year.  This grant can cover the cost of tuition and associated course expenses less any Pell grant received, but it cannot exceed the student’s cost of attendance.

Is it too late to apply for the WIG for this semester?

No.  Complete the FAFSA now.  Even if you’ve paid your tuition, if eligible, you can be reimbursed.

So………what are you waiting for?
